Work it Girl! | Editorial Shoot Teaser

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Okay, first off please forgive me for the whack title lol It was just the first thing that came to my mind. This weekend has been super busy for me but I’m not complaining by any means. Today was all about taking some editorial pictures for Imari’s portfolio. She’s an amazing MUA and is on her way to doing big things (more on that later). I will be doing a full blog post in a few days but until then, here is a little something to tide you over.

Until next time,

Aisha + Charles Teaser

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Today has been a very long day. I had an engagement shoot with Aisha & Charles that went exceptionally well. I’m about to hit the sack but I thought I’d share a sneak peek  from today. This picture also happens to serve as Day 57 of my 365 Project. Stay tuned for the full post in the next couple of days.

Boudoir

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

I’ve been keeping my feelers out so that I don’t miss any opportunities. I am pretty sure that I want to focus on being a wedding photographer but in the process I’m willing to try out different things. I mean after all shooting fashion, portraits, editorial, boudoir, product, etc. can all help me define my style as a wedding photographer. I am like a sponge right now, soaking up everything that comes my way. That’s why when a friend wanted me to do some boudoir pictures for her I jumped at the opportunity. For those of that don’t know, boudoir is defined as a lady’s private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room. It is a type of photography where women dress up in sexy items of clothing and have pictures taken that can revile those in any men’s magazine. Most women takes these pictures for their significant other. However, these types of shoots are also about empowering women to love their bodies and that they too are just as sexy (if not more so) as the women who grace the magazines.

Do to the delicate and private nature of these photos, in addition to the respect I have for my client, I can’t show the pictures we took from the shoot. However, there is one image that I have permission to share. I think this picture encompasses boudoir in it’s most basic sense… a lady’s private dressing room. Until next time.

Thoughtful Thursday | “Baby, You’re a Firework!”

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but the first time I heard Katy Perry’s song Firework, I cried. That particular day I was feeling pretty down. I felt lost, that my future was unclear and I was having serious doubts about my skill as a photographer. Frankly, I was worried and quite overwhelmed. I happened upon the video  for Firework and as I listened to the lyrics, tears began falling down my face. The song was speaking directly to me. I decided at that very moment that I am special and that there is something special inside of me. As the song says, I “just gotta ignite the light and let it shine” because I am a Firework!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

I love love, the way it looks and feels. People often say that Valentine’s Day isn’t a real holiday but I feel that any day that celebrates love is worthy of a little recognition. So… even though Valentine’s Day isn’t until Monday I decided to do a Valentine’s Day inspired shoot in honor of the holiday. It was a beautiful day in Atlanta last Sunday so I asked my sister to model for me. Even though she was a little under the weather, she was quite the trooper. I think the pictures turned out great! Exactly how I had imagined. What do you guys think?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I decided to try a little different processing on these two. It gives the picture a different feel. What do you think?

Thoughtful Thursday | A Place to Lay My Head

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

This week has been quite a roller coaster ride for me. I broke my camera on Sunday which sent me plummeting to a low however, by mid-week inquires from potential clients and inspiration, from within and from others, propelled me all the way to the top. Through all the ups & downs that life throws at me I am so happy that I have a place to lay my head at the end of the day. Whether the day ultimately turns out good or bad, I can be thankful for the reflection that is afforded to me every night when I turn off the lights to sleep. I say my prayers and thank God for everything, the joy as well the pain. In addition to the warm bed to sleep in every night :-)
