Extending My Brand

Friday, April 29th, 2011

I figured it was time for me to get some new business cards. Although, I liked my other ones… they were kinda random and didn’t fit in with any of my other branding elements. It was definitely time for some new ones. I designed a new card and I found this company called MOO (absolutely love them!) to print them for me. I love that my new cards fit in with my website and blog now. What do you guys think?

New Hair… New Me

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

Yesterday, I decided that I wanted to do something different to my hair. It also was on of the things on my 101 in 1001 list. I went in and told my hairstylist I just wanted a light color for the changing of the seasons. I didn’t know what to expect as the end result but I like they way it turned out. It makes me feel very edgy and artsy (probably more so than I actually am lol). What do you guys think?

This Is Me

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

The more I change, the more I actually stay the same. The core of who I am as a person has stayed with me these past 25 years of my life. I’m still the goofy, reserved, shy bookworm that I was in high school & in college. The only difference now it that I’ve learned to embrace who I am… quirks and all. I believe growing up we often want to be something different. For me… I wanted to be taller, more outgoing, and skinner but as I got older I’ve learned that I’m perfect just the way I am because this is how God intended me to be. So although I would LOVE for my stomach to be flatter… I don’t love me any less.  This is me… Saadia Me*Chel :-)

What Top Chef Teaches Me About Photography

Monday, April 18th, 2011

I don’t really care too much for trash reality TV however, I do LOVE the show Top Chef. Top Chef is an American reality competition show that airs on Bravo, in which chefs compete against each other in culinary challenges. They are judged by a panel of professional chefs and other notables from the food and wine industry with one or more contestants eliminated in each episode (Thank you Wiki!)

I was watching Top Chef: Masters the other day (which is a spin-off of the original show where 12 world-renowned chefs compete against each other in weekly challenges). As I was watching these world renewed chefs scramble to create brillant dishes in a short amount of time, I had a revelation. One of these, 5-star, chefs eluded that being in the competition forced her to use her creativity in a way that she hasn’t in many years. At that very moment, I had an “a-ha” moment. As artists, when we place ourselves outside of our “comfort zone,” something amazing happens. It is at this juncture where creativity spreads its wings and we are able to surprise ourselves by creating something really. In the previous episode, this same chef played it safe and was almost sent home. From there, she decided she needed to take some risks, break away from her norm and… she did. By doing so, she created a dish that the critics loved and clinched the win.

So sure… you can create the perfect picture when all things are optimal (i.e. lighting, subject, exposure, etc.) however, when you are challenged or forced to do something different something incredible comes out of it. I realized that the entire nature of the show is to push people out of their comfort zone. To challenge them to think outside the box. To force them to tap into their creativity. To push them to create never before seen masterpieces. That being said, I’m booking a one-way ticket out of my comfort zone because once you leave that space, you’ll find where the magic happens.

Auburn Engagement Photography | Toya & Bruce

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

He says they met at Walmart. “It doesn’t count if I don’t remember it” she responds. She politely corrects him, “We met at Keller Hall at Auburn University.” She explains that she was visiting his roommate when they were “properly” introduced. 2 weeks after their “first” introduction, she can’t figure out why she likes him but… she does. From there, a friendship flourished. They say the best relationships come from great friendships and one January day they put this theory to the test; a relationship bloomed. On her birthday, 4 years later, riding in a hot air ballon, he asks her to be his wife. She knows exactly why she loves him and she says yes.

I drove to Auburn (the place they met) to take my best friend and her fiancee’s engagement photos. I was honored, to say the least. I’m so happy for the two of you and even though I won’t be able to shoot your wedding, I look forward to participating in your special day.
