I remember her fondly as a baby but she is definitely not a baby anymore. They sure grow up fast.

About Saadia Me*Chel Carnes
Welcome!
I am an Atlanta based, wedding photographer but more importantly I am an artist. I believe that there is beauty in everything and that life, itself, is beautiful in all of its uncertainty. My camera serves as a powerful tool, allowing me to express my creativity in amazing, sometimes unconventional ways. I am able to use the medium of photography to capture the magnificence and beauty of the world as well as the people in it.
I look forward to meeting you, reading your comments, and sharing my work with you. Thanks so much for stopping by to visit. I hope you come back soon and often! To book the studio email us at studio@saadiamechel.com

After I took this self-portrait I finally saw the slight bump in my nose. I always knew it was there but I could never really see because it’s most visible when looking at my profile. I shuddered when I saw the image because I hadn’t realized how flawed and imperfect my nose was. Not to mention I’m not entirely comfortable with the shape of my head either. However, it got me thinking about how our imperfections make us who we are. If everyone was perfect, life would be boring and bland. I must admit this isn’t my favorite picture of me nor is it the most flattering image but… it’s me. And you know what? With a society that is so plagued by beauty and where Photoshop is king, I’m okay with me. Imperfect nose and all. My initial reaction was to delete the picture but something in me kept telling me to keep it and include it in my 52 Weeks Project. So… here it is on the Internet for everyone to see and… that’s totally cool with me.

You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them. ~Desmond Tutu
I had the pleasure of photographing Andrea and her three kids. We had a good time capturing these family memories. Since one of her kids is off to college next year, I’m sure she’ll cherish these for years to come.
Tiffanie and I “officially” met in August. We were both attending a reunion, which was comprised of individuals who had participated in one of my mentor’s workshops in the past. We had a great time and everybody got a chance to meet each other and hangout. Tiffanie told me she was gonna be in town this past weekend so we decided to schedule a shoot. We both expressed the desire to have pictures taken for our respective website so… she offered to take my picture and I in return took some pictures of her. Although, I lost my keys in the process and it was a but nippy, we managed to come away with some stellar images. Hope you like these Tiffanie!

The boyfriend and I have been watching a lot of X-men lately. We started watching “Wolverine and the X-Men.” It is an animated series which centers around Wolverine leading the X-Men after Professor X falls into a coma. From there, I watched ALL the movies. To say I’ve had superheros on the brain is an understatement. So… I decided for my self-portrait this week I would conjure up some powers of my own. I notice, whenever I watch some superhero related movie, cartoon or TV show, there is always a point when the hero first discovers that they are different. Sometimes characters are thrilled by this discover but other times, not so much. Unfortunately, more often than not, these people fall prey to bad things happening because they don’t know how to handle their abilities yet. For this picture, I wanted to tap into the vulnerability that I’m sure comes with knowing your different and that you can’t control what is happening to you.

So… at the beginning of this year I started a 365 photo project and after the two months, the project really became a drag. It started to feel more like an obligation and less like fun. Let’s just say the 365 Project didn’t last very long. For the past few weeks I have been contemplating starting another photo project… a 52 weeks project. It’s where you take one picture a week for a whole year. I’ve been leery to dive into it because of how the 365 project panned out but I’ve decided that it’s something I really want to do. Something I need to do. As I find myself consumed more and more with the business side of photography, I pick my camera up less and less (so not good!). So, I believe this 52 week project will push me to pick my camera up at least once a week. I decided to focus only on self-portraits for this project because I love taking pictures of myself it seems a little more manageable for me and I’m always available lol Seriously though, self portraits are quite the challenge and although I think I’m pretty good at them, there is still room to grow and learn. So without further ado, here is the first picture in the set. It is me in my Halloween costume. I’m going to be a vampire this year and although I’m unsure if this picture says “vampire” (probably would’ve helped if I could’ve got my fangs in) I really like the way it came out. The focus is great (which can be rather difficult with self portraits) and I like the lighting. I couldn’t decide which picture I liked better so I decided to include them both. What do you guys think?
