Learning is a Life Long Process

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

I’ve been learning a lot…

Not only am I in school getting my Masters in Mass Communication but I’m also learning the business of photography isn’t just about taking good pictures. It requires a lot of other stuff that I hadn’t even considered. In the last year, I have become exposed to so many others skills, people, and things while developing my business. I’ve learned how to use Photoshop and Lightroom, how to run a business, I’ve learned website & graphic design, lighting and I’m sure there is more that I can add to the list. I’ve also met some new people and learned a lit about myself. Currently, my bookshelf has become quite the ecclectic mix of school related readings (dealing with gender and media) to business books to self-help books to photography books.

I’ve reflected back on all the skills I’ve developed, and new experiences I’ve had just from calling myself a photography. Sometimes we don’t know where the path is going to lead but we at least need to have the courage to step on it.

Here’s to taking chances and getting unexpected, wonderful results!

Out with the Old in with the New

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

New things are great! There is a certain air of freshness and innovation that comes along with a new project. Lately, I’ve been battling with my brand, well mostly the colors of my brand. It was all a little too bright for me. (One design tip: it’s usually not a good idea to have too many bright colors paired together.) It was starting to look a little childish and frankly, to me, it became headache inducing. That being said, I went on a quest to change my blog, website, and tweak my overall brand a little.

As a person, generally speaking, I gravitate towards dark colors and I’m an earth tone girl. So… the “tiffany blue” and “sherbet orange,” aesthetically, just weren’t resonating with me. I didn’t think the colors, together, did I very good job of encompassing who I am as a person or what my work represents. So I changed just about everything, well except my logo. I decided to keep the sherbet orange :-) My brand may change as I change, grow, and develop but I think these new elements totally say, “Hi! I’m Saadia Me*Chel! Nice to meet you!” in the best way possible. What do you think of my new design? Check out the website: http://www.saadiamechel.com

P.S. – How cool is it that I can embed my website into my blog. Super cool! You should still visit the website at its url (http://saadiamechel.com) to get its full effect and so you can leave me a Facebook comment on my website. Even more cool right?!?!?!

#22 New Things Make Me Giddy!

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

As you may or may not know… I created a list awhile back listing 101 things I wanted to do in 1001 days. Well… I can officially cross another one of those things off.

After months of deliberation I decided that there was no way I could live without it. I have reasoned with myself a million times, weighing the pros and the cons, until one day I realized that there was no reason why I shouldn’t get it. After all… I had told myself that I wanted needed it! So… I clicked the “submit” button and anxiously waited two days, like a kid waiting for Christmas morning, until it arrived on my doorstep. I nearly snatched it out his hands when he brought it to the door. I quickly scrawl some semblance of my name down and slammed the door shut. In hindsight, that was probably a little rude but I couldn’t wait to open it… to marvel at it… to USE it… to call it mine…

Welcome to the family… you have truly made me happy. At least for a couple of days until the newness wears off…

I’m a Professional…

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

I finally have my business cards! I must say ordering them was something I had been putting off much longer than I should have. However, I’m happy they are finally here. They make me feel like a professional. Now when someone asks me for one, I can whip one of these bad boys out, smile internally to myself, and think… “Yes, that’s right… I’m a professional!” lol

What do you think of my business card?
