I remember her fondly as a baby but she is definitely not a baby anymore. They sure grow up fast.

About Saadia Me*Chel Carnes
Welcome!
I am an Atlanta based, wedding photographer but more importantly I am an artist. I believe that there is beauty in everything and that life, itself, is beautiful in all of its uncertainty. My camera serves as a powerful tool, allowing me to express my creativity in amazing, sometimes unconventional ways. I am able to use the medium of photography to capture the magnificence and beauty of the world as well as the people in it.
I look forward to meeting you, reading your comments, and sharing my work with you. Thanks so much for stopping by to visit. I hope you come back soon and often! To book the studio email us at studio@saadiamechel.com

“When we were children, we used to think that when we were grown-up we would no longer be vulnerable. But to grow up is to accept vulnerability… To be alive is to be vulnerable.” ~ Madeleine L’Engle
“With each passage of human growth we must shed a protective structure [like a hardy crustacean]. We are left exposed and vulnerable – but also yeasty and embryonic again, capable of stretching in ways we hadn’t known before.” ~ Gail Sheehy
So… at the beginning of this year I started a 365 photo project and after the two months, the project really became a drag. It started to feel more like an obligation and less like fun. Let’s just say the 365 Project didn’t last very long. For the past few weeks I have been contemplating starting another photo project… a 52 weeks project. It’s where you take one picture a week for a whole year. I’ve been leery to dive into it because of how the 365 project panned out but I’ve decided that it’s something I really want to do. Something I need to do. As I find myself consumed more and more with the business side of photography, I pick my camera up less and less (so not good!). So, I believe this 52 week project will push me to pick my camera up at least once a week. I decided to focus only on self-portraits for this project because I love taking pictures of myself it seems a little more manageable for me and I’m always available lol Seriously though, self portraits are quite the challenge and although I think I’m pretty good at them, there is still room to grow and learn. So without further ado, here is the first picture in the set. It is me in my Halloween costume. I’m going to be a vampire this year and although I’m unsure if this picture says “vampire” (probably would’ve helped if I could’ve got my fangs in) I really like the way it came out. The focus is great (which can be rather difficult with self portraits) and I like the lighting. I couldn’t decide which picture I liked better so I decided to include them both. What do you guys think?
Oh, one more thing… check out my new logo!
“And my most coveted thing is my high self-esteem
And the low tolerance for them telling me how to lean
See the most important parts are the ones that are unseen
See the wings don’t make you fly and the crown don’t make you king
Now God don’t like ugly, ain’t too happy bout pretty
I am ignorance’s enemy so stay out of the vicinity of…”

Konnichi wa!
A few weeks ago I had this urge to paint a tire. I’m not quite sure where the urge came from but, I had to get my hands on a tire and paint it yellow. My boyfriend was kind enough to bring me a tire. He even spray painted it yellow for me (he is really too good to me). So once the tire was all painted and looking fabulous I needed wanted to use it in a photoshoot.
My little sister seemed like the perfect fit to match the playfulness the newly painted tire evoked. Plus, I had been promising my mother pictures of her. What a wonderful way to kill two birds with one stone right? Anyway, my sister and I didn’t have to look much farther than our own backyard (it has lovely light) for a location. So I grabbed my camera and tire, then proceeded to spend about 2 hours photographing my sister. I think the pictures turned out nicely and I was quite pleased with how the tire turned out.
Now, maybe I’ll spray paint the tire red and use it again for something else….

This person is perhaps the most important person in my life so you can imagine my nervousness in taking pictures of my significant other. However, he proved to be quite photogenic and it brought me great joy to snap pictures of someone that means so much to me. I must admit that these pictures are probably more for me than for him but nonetheless they turned out great and I hope he likes them. Love you babe!

“Are we taking pictures in the cemetery?” She asked. “Would that be a problem if we are?” I responded. “Uh… no thanks!” Was her response. I laughed and then told her we were indeed taking pictures in the cemetery. She laughed too, before saying she trusted me and my vision. I was very grateful.
Like my friend Chanelle, I also met Tamara through Hands On Atlanta. We all turned 25 this year so I thought I’d photograph my friends in celebration of turning a quarter of a century. We had an interesting time walking around Oakland Cemetery in downtown Atlanta. Despite the unconventional location I feel the pictures turned out rather nicely. Hope you like these Tam. Happy Birthday!
