The Adventures of Sam & Saadia: Captain D’s

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Sam (my boyfriend) and I eat out a lot. Not because I don’t like to cook but mainly because it’s more convenient for us at the present moment. It also happens to be the time that we “bond.” Now, that’s not to say that we don’t bond over other activities it’s just that we really love food (we don’t discriminate either lol). I can’t think of any better way to enjoy a meal than sharing conversation with my best friend. We talk, we laugh, we fight (play fight that is), make jokes… we enjoy each other’s company. I take great joy in the fact that Sam and I communicate so well and whether he knows it our not… I look forward to our meals together.

Today we went to Captain D’s for a quick dinner. We talked and laughed then I gave Sam an impromptu photography lesson in the parking lot. As he snapped a few pictures of me, I attempted to explain the finer points of the exposure triangle. I discovered that I need to find a more effective way of explaining this stuff to him because I don’t believe I was doing a good job. I may have confused him with all the terminology (jargon as he calls it) but I think he retained some of it (I hope so anyway lol). I know some of my explanations were a little muddled. I’ll definitely make it clearer for his next lesson.

“And my most coveted thing is my high self-esteem
And the low tolerance for them telling me how to lean
See the most important parts are the ones that are unseen
See the wings don’t make you fly and the crown don’t make you king
Now God don’t like ugly, ain’t too happy bout pretty
I am ignorance’s enemy so stay out of the vicinity of…”

Albany Editorial Photography | Makeup by Imari

Monday, March 7th, 2011

I met Imari in November of last year when I took pictures at her 25th birthday party. It was there that I found out she was a makeup artist. After the party, I suggested that we work together in the future on some shoots. Fast forward to February of this year when Imari and I, along with stylist Tamara Clinton, collaborated to capture some images for Imari’s portfolio. It was atypically hot, Feburaruy day down in Albany, GA but we managed to fight the heat and our model, Bria, we really rocked the shoot. Imari is a very talented MUA and coupled with Tamara’ s styling, I was able to capture some really stellar images. Special thanks to Sam, who was an awesome assistant; I couldn’t have done it without you babe! It was a pleasure working with you ladies and we definitely have to do it again in the future.

We started the day with a very natural look.

Really love the movement of the water in this one!

Tamara fixing Bria’s shirt in between shots. Her styling really complimented the makeup well.

Happy Anniversary My Love

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Happy anniversary my love. Although the last four years have had it’s share of ups and downs, I couldn’t be more in love in with you.

Thank you…

for being everything I am not,

for making me strong when I feel weak,

for lifting me up when I am down,

for giving me a shoulder to cry on,

for pushing me harder than anyone else,

for telling me when I am wrong,

for loving me in spite of myself.

For telling me I’m beautiful,

for holding my hand when I feel scared,

for being my biggest fan,

for praying with me, for me in times of need

for being you,

for everything.

My heart beats becasue of you.

I love you yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Happy Anniversary!

The Art of My Life… my best friend, my love, my soulmate

Monday, December 20th, 2010

The more I take pictures the more I begin to see in art in everything that is around me. So… I’m starting something new on my blog. I’ll be posting pictures that show what I consider to be the art of my life. This first picture is of someone who is very near and dear to me… my boyfriend.

I happen to think I have the best boyfriend in the world. Not only is he my boyfriend but he is also my best friend, my soulmate. He is everything I am not but he is also just like me. We both may be imperfect but together, we work perfectly. Since I started taking pictures he has been my willing model when I want to try out a location, test out some new skill I’ve learned, or when I’m checking the lighting conditions. He is also my second in command, my reflector holder, and sometimes my creative director, pose finder, and second shooter.

I’ve amassed quite a collection of pictures of my sweetie and if anything represents the art of my life it would be him…

“You Make Me Smile”

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

You make me smile like the sun, fall out of bed
Sing like bird, dizzy in my head
Spin like a record, crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool, forget how to breathe
Shine like gold, buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile

I’ve been blessed with one of the most amazing men in the world. He is patient and kind, gentle and sincere, caring and protective, as well as funny. I couldn’t be luckier or happier. He also happens to indulge me whenever I want to try out some new photography technique (he plays the role of model well) Thanks for supporting me and loving me just the way I am… “oh, you make me smile.”

 Love you babe!

Atlanta Portrait Photography | Meet Sam

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

This person is perhaps the most important person in my life so you can imagine my nervousness in taking pictures of my significant other. However, he proved to be quite photogenic and it brought me great joy to snap pictures of someone that means so much to me. I must admit that these pictures are probably more for me than for him but nonetheless they turned out great and I hope he likes them. Love you babe!
